Ruby is one of the five godspawn survivors the Mesarthim massacre known as the Carnage. She is the half-sister of Sparrow.
Appearance[]
Ruby is fifteen years old, but will turn sixteen in a few months. Like the other godspawn, Ruby has cool, blue skin. Her skin is soft, smooth, and frictionless. She has a slim build and riotous dark hair. She refuses to wear her hair in braids, even though Sparrow has tried many times to convince her to. She has highly arched feet and her toenails are painted red. She wears silk slips that would be considered undergarments. When she uses her powers, her eyes turn a burning red.
Personality[]
Ruby has a volatile nature. She is utterly self-absorbed and dramatic. She lives in the moment. She's at ease with herself, even when naked in front of others. Sarai describes Ruby as "blazing like a beacon, burning like a wildfire out of control." Ruby is passionate and impulsive. She is lacks perception of how her actions and words make others feel. Ruby is the most ardent of the godspawn, and the most prone to boredom. She is bored by the monotonous routine of the citadel. There's nothing to read, no music, the food's boring, and they have invented thousands of games and outgrown them all. She desires exploring her sexuality so much that she even goes about kissing the ghosts. Ruby is convinced that the godspawn will die sooner rather than later as they have no possible future. She bluntly admits and accepts this. Ruby believes that "interesting" is always worth it, even if it comes with danger and ends in doom. She'd rather be in hell than purgatory. She hates sharing. Ruby is thoughtless but not purposefully mean or cruel. She has a saucy bravado, and is outgoing, fiery, and self-assured. Ruby can be reckless. At her core, Ruby has an intense longing. She's heat and volatility, but from passion not violence. She wants to kiss, not kill. While she might not want to truly harm anyone, she feels she has non choice, or she will be killed by the humans. Ruby is furiously alive.
Background[]
Ruby has the power to create fire. She can engulf herself I flames, turning into a crackling, deep-orange column of fire. It begins instantly but dies more slowly. Before she was old enough to control her powers, she was quite dangerous. This was compounded by the volatility of her nature. Her power is an extension of that nature. Ruby can also light objects on fire.
Ruby and the other godspawn have been living in the citadel for the past fifteen years. They grew up with a "stew of envy and longing. They hated the humans, but also wanted to be them." They wanted to be accepted and loved, but since they couldn't have that, their feelings took the form of spite. They layered cynicism atop their longing. They hardened themselves, by choosing to meet hate with hate, all at the direction and command of Minya.
Plot[]
Strange the Dreamer[]
Upon the arrival of the delegates in Weep, the first guests in two hundred years, Ruby, who already believed the godspawn had no future and would not grow old, becomes certain that they are going to be killed by the people of Weep.
After Sarai learns through visiting the dreams of the new arrivals that the mysterious guests are in Weep to remove the citadel, Ruby becomes even more determined to experience sexual pleasure. She comes to Feral to "experiment" with kissing. At first, Feral rebuffs her. But when Ruby comes to his room and begins trying to seduce him, her eventually gives in. They both think they are probably going to die sooner rather than later. They also quickly discover that the more one "practices" kissing and other related things, the better one becomes at it.

Due to the fact that the godspawn only think they have days left to live, Ruby decides to live in the moment. She does this by starting a sexual relationship with Feral because she wants to experience everything before she dies. Feral sleeps with Ruby, even though he's said before that he preferred Sparrow and Sarai over Ruby.
Sparrow[]
Sparrow and Ruby act like sisters usually do. They are always arguing, but never very heatedly.
