Laini Taylor, a self-described "writer-artist-daydreamer-nerd-person," is an American author and artist located in Portland, Oregon, USA. She is the creator of the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series. Along with Daughter of Smoke & Bone, she has also written three previous novels: Blackbringer and Silksinger in the Dreamdark series, as well as National Book Award finalist Lips Touch: Three Times.

Biography[]

Taylor was born on December 11, 1971 inn Chico, California. She is the middle child, with an older brother and younger sister. She grew up in a military family and lived in Europe and California. She earned her English degree from UC Berkeley. She has always wanted to be a writer, and was thirty-five years old when she finished her first novel.

Laini met her husband, illustrator Jim Di Bartolo, who illustrates Laini's novels, on her first day at art school. In 2009, their daughter Clementine was born.
